To set up file striping, perform the following high-level tasks. These tasks are detailed in the following sections.
Create a striped storage aggregate that can hold striped volumes, as described in “Creating a Striped Storage Aggregate”. Creating a striped storage aggregate automatically creates member aggregates on multiple nodes.
Create a striped volume, as described in “Creating a Striped Volume”. Creating a striped volume automatically creates member volumes on the striped aggregate.
Start writing data to the striped volume. Files are automatically striped across the striped volume's member volumes.
As needed, perform other administrative tasks as described in “Performing Volume Tasks” and “Performing Aggregate Tasks”.
To create a striped storage aggregate, use the storage aggregate new command to create an aggregate that is located across multiple nodes and has the volume type striped. You also specify the typical aggregate parameters as described in “Creating a Storage Aggregate”. The following example creates a striped aggregate named stripedaggr1 that uses nodes named node01 through node06, a total of 72 disks, and RAID-DP:
node::>storage aggregate new -aggregate stripedaggr1 -nodes node01..node06 -diskcount 72 -raidtype raid_dp
The command automatically creates member aggregates across the specified nodes and divides the total number of disks across the nodes (in this case, 12 disks per node across six nodes).
